The fifth day’s play of the PSA Silver level Manchester Open takes place today, as the quarter-finals are played at the National Squash Centre.
Perhaps surprisingly for the first tournament back after the six-month suspension, there are no surprises in the quarter-finals, as ell eight seeds on both sides of the draw have made it through to this stage.
The day starts with both New Zealanders in action in the first session. Defending Manchester Open champion Joelle King will face top seed Camille Serme, while Paul Coll will do battle with Tarek Momen in a repeat of the World Championship final ten months ago.
Later in the day, World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy will take on British No.1 Joel Makin, with the other Welsh player in the draw, World No.9 Tesni Evans, taking on English No.1 Sarah-Jane Perry in the penultimate match of the evening.
Two all Egyptian encounters will see Black Ball Open champion Hania El Hammamy take on Salma Hany, before Marwan ElShorbagy faces off against Ali Farag. His wife, Nour El Tayeb, will play American No.1 Amanda Sobhy, before Karim Abdel Gawad and Simon Rösner round out the day’s action, as they fight for the final place in the last four.
